Feeding the Homeless in Tacoma
On Wednesday, Dec. 29th, 2010, 21 Lutheran youth from four congregations around Puget Sound gave a day of Christmas break to share time, talent, and treasure with the homeless in Tacoma. Meeting at Zion in Tacoma, the youth and adults made 50 food bags containing sandwiches and cookies which they made at the church. Christmas candy, hand made cards, and the food items were distributed to the homeless who gathered in the courtyard at the Lighthouse Mission. Two groups of youth worked in the kitchens and served dinner at Lighthouse and the Adams St. Family Shelter. One group spent an hour singing and playing games with the children at the Family Shelter. Christ the King and Pilgrim from Bellevue, King of Kings from Renton, and Zion, Tacoma were represented by enthusiastic and hard-working youth who made a difference. King of Kings sent 100 hand-knitted hats to donate to the mission. Zion provided boxes of toys and Christ the King brought Christmas bags for the children. The donations, volunteer workers, and food bags are really appreciated by the Rescue Mission in Tacoma and would love to have the youth come again in February or March.
